The Silver Slipper restaurant, a local dining institution since 1938, will break ground for its new location on Scotty Lane near the Tallahassee Mall at 9 a.m. today.
Manager Bill Kalfas said his family plans to open the 14,600-square-foot facility across from teh Executive Inn during August. Service will continue a the current Northwood Mall location until then, he said.
Lunch and a bar with live entertainment will be added to the new operation, according to Kalfas. The new location will have private dining rooms and banquest facilities for 400.
The Silver Slipper is one of several businesses that acknowledged last month they were considering a move from the mall, partly because of ownership changes that raised uncertainty about leases.
Kalfas said the new location would be leased from Investment Mortgage Co. of Florida and Gulf Sun Builders.
